About the House

The subject of this blog is a duplex at 110 3rd Ave in Clendenin, WV, a small town about half an hour from the state capital.

If you check Zillow or similar sites you will see it listed as a single family home, but it is actually a duplex. Each unit had 3 bedrooms and a bathroom when it was originally built in 1950, but I don’t know how many bedrooms it will have when I’m done.

The property came into my possession as a result of a tax lien sale. The previous owner had stopped paying her (his?) property tax in 2018, so the county sold off the tax lien in 2019. A flipper bought the lien, and then got a deed in May 2021 (it takes a while, yes). I bought the property at auction in July 2022 from the flipper.

How do I know this? Well, that is going to be the subject of a few blog posts.

About Clendenin

Clendenin is a town of around 700 people located 28 miles from Charleston. It is about 3 hours from Columbus OH, 5 hours from DC, 5 hours from Pittsburgh, and 7 hours from Philly.

It is not close to anything important, but it does meet the minimum requirements of a grocery store and internet fast enough that I can work from home.

If you would like to have a look at the town, the video at right (link) was shot shortly after the 2016 flood.
